They alleged that since the last three months they have to fetch water from a distance of two to three kilometres, take bath once a week.
Even the cattle do not have water and they go far in search of water in ponds during grazing. However, it has been difficult to provide water to the hybrid cows which are kept at home.
The officials have failed to provide a solution to the drinking water problem. The villagers have threatened to intensify the agitation if the officials failed to take action in this regard.
Taluk Panchayat President visited the spot and pacified the agitators. He assured them that immediate action would be taken to supply drinking water in tankers.
He said that an attempt to sink a borewell on Wednesday did not yield water and therefore officials will be asked to sink another borewell.
The agitation was led by Dalit Sangarsha Samithi taluk convenor B V Anand and leaders Jayakumar, Krishnappa, C V Venkatesh, Narayanswamy, Bharathamma, Narayanamma and others.
