Though JD(S) has stated that it would announce the official list in the night on Monday, Congress is yet to take a firm decision on Puttur constituency, which has been a centre of debate for various reasons.
District Youth Congress President Bondala Jagannath Shetty was almost confident till Sunday that he would given B form for Puttur constituency. However, even like a surprise to himself, he was denied a ticket from Puttur on Monday as the local leaders’ pressure mounted on the State netas.
Rumours were intense in the evening that Mr Bondala has been given an offer from JD(S) to contest from Mangalore City South. However, either of the parties did not comment on the issue. It can also be mentioned that some party workers held a protest against the party leaders in front of district Congress office in the morning, and alleged that the party was neglecting the youth.
Though Mr Vasanth Bangera and Dr Raghu have been announced as the candidates from Belthangady and Sullia respectively, B forms are yet to be issued for them.
However, sources in Congress told Deccan Herald that the candidates would be finalised before Tuesday morning at any cost.
JD(S) to back rebel
Meanwhile, as one more surprise, JD(S) has declared its external support to Puttur BJP rebel candidate T Shakunthala Shetty. It was said former CM Kumaraswamy had assured Ms Shakunthala of the parties support, if she contested as an Independent which has come true now.
JD(S) is not fielding its official candidate in the constituency.
