Opposition trains gun on PMO
New Delhi, DHNS:
Parliament continued to face noisy scenes on Monday over the T R Baalu affair as the Opposition pressed for a clarification from the Prime Minister over letters reportedly written by PMO asking the Petroleum Ministry to release gas for a company owned by the DMK ministers son.

Amidst indications that Minister in PMO Prithviraj Chavan would present the government view in the Upper House to quell the Opposition belligerence, NDA members walked out of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Even as Speaker Somnath Chatterjee refused to adjourn the House despite a vociferous Opposition, members from BJP, JD(U) and MDMK demanded an immediate statement by the government.

In the Rajya Sabha, NDA and AIADMK walked out when Chairman Hamid Ansari refused to suspension the Question Hour to take up the matter.

Meanwhile, the Congress has defended the PMO. “It is a practice that is always followed in PMO. It always forwards such requests, but that does not mean it backs it,” AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said.
