Two years lease mugitu, mane release madi (Two years lease period is over, release the house)
Out-housenalle iddu namage support kodi (Support us staying in the out house)
If you read the above dialogues, you will be reminded of coalition politics of the recent past. There was the JD(S)-BJP coalition in the rule for 20 months. After 20 months power was not transferred to the BJP. Theatre director and well known actor Yeshwanth Sardeshpande has made a mockery of these developments in his street play - Kamalappana Mane - specially directed for the BJP’s election campaign.
The first show of the play was arranged at the BJP office in Bangalore on Monday. The play revolves around Kamalappana Mane, symbolising the power centre. There is also a shop named ‘Thinno Kendra’ (Eating Centre) where basic commodities are sold at high price. The 20-min play also consists songs praising the BJP and its achievements. The play ends with the slogan “Gellali BJP, Gelluvudu Karnataka” (Let the BJP win, Karnataka will win).
Sardeshpande said the BJP is sponsoring staging of the play. Party workers will make all arrangements for actors and the staging of the play in the constituencies. He said he has trained three troupes, which will be touring 150 constituencies till the elections are over.
Sardeshpande has directed a special play for Bellary district following the request by BJP leaders of the district. “I am giving final touches to the play meant for Bellary. Candidates of the party will use our troupe extensively during their campaign in the district,” he said.
