Joined the wrong course?
The new academic year has begun, and you have hopefully settled down in the new class. If you are in school, there is very little choice in selection of subjects or optionals, and you are studying what you are told to. If you have already come to +2 or degree level, you have had to make choices and choose the course and the subjects of study.
You may have selected your course based on what others told you, or where you felt there is good “scope”, or maybe even because you could not get admission in the course you actually wanted to do. If you have adjusted well and are happy with what you are studying (or at least are reasonably satisfied), then it is good for you. But if you are very restless and unhappy with your choice, and you feel you have landed up in the wrong place, then you need to do some introspection.
The reasons for your dissatisfaction could be:
Not many friends in the new college, or the atmosphere does not suit you
Teachers are not very friendly and helpful, number of students is very large
Subjects seem to be difficult and you are having problem coping
Or
You are convinced that this course is not for you, you do not wish to pursue the career it is taking you to, and you are just not being able to relate to the subjects.
If your dissatisfaction is due to the first three, I sincerely advice you to hold on, give more time, — and more important – make efforts to overcome the problem by making new friends, reaching out to the teachers, or putting in more home study in each subject, preferably before it is covered in class. If it is the fourth reason, then you need to take serious cognisance whether you should continue or not.
The most preferable option would definitely be to complete the two or three years required to complete that course, and then branch out into what you feel is better for you. Keep in mind that it is not very difficult nowadays to take up different courses, or even careers that are at variation with what you studied at PUC or degree level.
Only if your heart and mind both say that you just will not be able to survive in this course, then make efforts to change before it is too late. In a few colleges admissions are still open, or your own college may be willing to shift you to another course. But do think very deeply before you take such a drastic step. Do not land up from the frying pan into the fire.
