A day after the shocking incident involving 11-year-old Sangeetha came to light, Vinoda English High School suspended two teachers - Ms Lakshmikala and Ms Blezi, pending inquiry for allegedly beating Sangeetha.
The move followed a visit by the Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Channabasappa to the school on Friday. He spoke to the management and teachers accused of inflicting corporal punishment on the child.
DPI Commissioner, Kumar Naik said that the management in their interaction with the DPI team denied the incident.
“The officer then visited the K C General Hospital and recorded the statements of the child. They saw some caning marks on Sangeetha, below her knees,” he said.
The DPI immediately issued a notice to the school authorities and sought an explanation. If found guilty, appropriate action would be initiated against the school, Mr Naik added.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the school stated that Sangeetha was not prompt with her homework and there were complaints from her teachers. Her parents, when asked to meet the teachers, avoided doing so, the statement claimed and added the school did not condone harsh measures on Sangeeta, if any.
FIR filed
RMC Yard police filed an FIR based on a complaint from her parents under various sections of IPC, including causing hurt and outraging modesty, based on the statements of the child.
The school remained closed on Friday on account of Varamahalakshmi festival.
