"They are outfielding us to be honest. That is something we have to correct. We did not field as well as we can and it was a disappointing part of our game,” Dravid said after the loss to England.
“They fielded beautifully and it made a difference on the outcome of the game. We have to play better cricket. Batting, we are getting some good knocks and some of our bowlers are bowling well, but fielding is an area in which we need to improve," Dravid said.
Crucial wickets
He said losing two quick wickets in the middle overs — that of Sourav Ganguly and Dravid himself — was crucial. "We were going well when Sourav and me were batting. But we knew that one of us should go on and make it count, but it did not happen that way. We lost wickets in quick succession and that put pressure on the lower order. Once Dhoni got out, Yuvi had to do it on his own. Perhaps, the critical stage of the match was losing those two wickets in quick succession. We could not afford that, especially when we were going in with six batsmen," he said.
Dravid refused to look negatively at his decision to bowl first after winning the toss.
"I don't think the game is won and lost on toss. A 100-over game was played after that and the wicket was good right through. When later even Yuvi was batting, the ball was really coming onto the bat.
“We should have restricted them to 25-30 runs less and they bowled a lot better towards the end and in the beginning. We could have done that. We lost the game because we could not put up a performance right through the 100 overs of the match."
On man of the match Ian Bell, Dravid said, "Bell is playing well, playing the spinners well in the middle overs and he is coming out and being positive. He looks in good control of the game."
Dravid said the spinners had been impressive. He also backed struggling Munaf Patel.
"Munaf did not have a particularly good game, but it can happen and it is a one-day game. We had gone after Tremlett and they went after Munaf. It is not a worry as we have some 5-6 strike bowlers and we have to keep faith in them to do well."
England skipper Paul Collingwood praised team effort.
"In many ways, I was as much satisfied with this win as with the one at the Rose Bowl what I had called a perfect performance. The way the openers reacted, set us a platform, went out there and scored was satisfying. The way we went about our fielding was good. The two new-ball bowlers, Anderson and Broad, both bowled great spells in the match."
