The taluk-level PU colleges and vocational education colleges sports meet organised under the joint auspice of the Pre University Board and Vocational Education department and Siddaganga Pre University colleges began here on Thursday at the Mahatma Gandhi stadium.

Zilla Panchayat opposition leader P N Krishnamurthy inaugurated the events by hoisting the flag and spoke about the importance of sports.

Everyone should show a lot of interest in sports. Life loses its meaning if one is not involved in sports especially at an young age. Winning or losing is not important but what is important is participating in the sports , he said.

By participating in sports not only does one become physically strong but also mentally strong, he said. The students should always keep this in mind, he added.

Pre University Education department deputy director Ramachandra who received the sports torch wished the competitors all the success.

Siddaganga Pre University college principal A P Shivakumar presided and told the students to work hard. The sports meet will end on September 1.
