As mark of resentment against the unruly move of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) of evacuating the roadside petty shops on Wednesday, the victimised petty shop vendors got back and occupied the roadside to do their brisk business on Thursday.
Under the leadership of Advocate Ivan D’Souza, huge number of roadside vendors whose shops, carts, tempos and several other belongings were ruthlessly demolished and lifted by the Corporation officials started their business at Lady Goschen area and State bank area at 9 am demanding that they would leave the place only when an alternate arrangement is made for them.
What if the vehicles are lost, these vendors without losing hope sold fruits on baskets and plastic sheets.
While one of them even sold hair clips on his inverted umbrella. Mr D’Souza informed that they even handed over a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner to provide alternate arrangement to these vendors and to provide them compensation for their loss, which is estimated at Rs 10 lakh.
Though patrolling was held by policemen in the area, Mr D’Souza said that they did not disturb the vendors in anyway.
