Rural games from Sept 1
Nehru Yuva Kendra in association with Coca-Cola India will launch ‘Thums Up Rural Games’ in the state from September 1. Thousands of farmers and rural folk are expected to participate in various sporting events including kabbadi, volleyball, sack carrying race for men and tennicoit and 100 metres relay for women as part of the three-week event.
The Games will cover six centres starting from Gadag and then will move on to Belgaum, Shimoga, Bellary, Tumkur and Ramanagaram districts. Olympian Ashwini Nachappa unveiled the logo of the Games on Wednesday.
The event is organised with the objective to strenghthen social cohesiveness for sustainable development and to inculcate interest among rural communities in sports and spot the hidden talent in that region.
KSBA’s billiards, snooker tourney
The 31st Junior and 38th Senior men’s and ladies’ Karnataka State Billiards & Snooker ranking tournament will start from September 15.
The tournament will be conducted over three legs. The entry fee is Rs 250 per event and Rs 400 for both events in each category.
Participants below the age of 21 years are eligible to participate in the junior tournament. For details contact association office at Miller Road, Bangalore.
Prasad elected KTA president
KS Prasad was elected the president of the Karnataka Tennikoit Association for the next four years at its Annual General Body Meeting held on August 25 at the Sree Kanteerava stadium.
At the meeting N Vishwanath was appointed the advisor besides deciding to conduct State championship for men, women, boys, girls, junior and sub-juniors to select State team for the 32nd Senior National championship.
