Bank employee ends life

A newly-married woman who was harassed for dowry, was set ablaze at her Ashok Nagar residence in DJ Halli police station limits.

A bank employee committed suicide in Kumaraswamy Layout police station limits on Sunday. Umesh Kumar (38), an employee of Hanumantha Nagar Co-operative Bank, was upset after his wife left him.

Police said for nearly a decade, Umesh was living with his brother.

Couple killed
A couple died when a KSRTC bus rammed into their two-wheeler near Nelamangala on Tumkur-Bangalore highway on Sunday.

Umesh (25) and Asha (22) came under the rear wheels of the KSRTC bus. Police said the couple were from Uttarhalli village and were on their way home after attending a function near Tumkur. The accident took place at Karikalu Cross near Nelamangala.

Held for kidnap
A man was arrested by Upparpet police on Saturday on charges of kidnap and robbery. Ayub Pasha alias Ayub (37) had waylaid Chetan,  a college student, on Ananda Rao circle flyover, threatened him and snatched away his mobile phone, Rs 600 and other valuables.

Woman murdered
A newly-married woman who was harassed for dowry, was set ablaze at her Ashok Nagar residence in DJ Halli police station limits.

On Saturday, she succumbed to burns at Victoria Hospital. She has been identified as Roshana (20).
She had married Isam seven months ago. Police said the couple hailed from Orissa and Isam was working for a hotelier. For the past few days, he had been asking his wife to bring Rs 50,000 for starting business.
Three days ago, he doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze. The police have launched a hunt to trace Isam.

Prisoner dies
A 52-year-old inmate of Parappana Agrahara central jail died on the way to hospital on Saturday evening.
Ranganatha Gowda, the deceased, hailing from Chikmagalur, was serving life sentence in connection with a murder case.

He had completed eight and a half years in jail.

At noon, he complained of chest pain and vomited. He breathed his last while being taken to Victoria Hospital.
