Government should extend the classes in Kasturba Girls Residential school till tenth standard and should also provide compulsory hostel facility to all them, urged Block Education Officer Kemparangaiah.
He was speaking at the ‘Programme in every school’ organised by Kannada Sahitya Parishat at Kasturba Girls Residential school here.
Kasturba Girls school is one of the few schools in the State which is functioning effectively, opined Kemparangaiah who said that steps like this will help improve the female literacy in the taluk which is the lowest in the state. There is a high rate of girl students dropout in the taluk, he added.
Briefing about the various programmes and facilities, he said that the Centre is not only providing free education and meals but is also training the girl students in embroidery and other job oriented programmes to make them financially independent. He urged the people to make best use of these facilities.
Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Sannanagappa lauded the efforts to increase the literacy among the girl students.
Later cultural programmes were presented by the students. Veeranna, Secretary Srinivas, Special Officer Sarvamangalamma and others were present.
