The underground drainage works will be completed within March 2008 and will be handed over to the Turuvekere Town Municipality, said Dayananda Murthy, Engineer, Karnataka State Town Water Supply and Underground Drainage Board after reviewing the works here.
Total expenditure of the works will be Rs 6.5 crore, out of which Rs 4.5 crore will be spent on underground drainage tunnel.
Drainage water clearance unit will be started at Bilisaste village in four acre area near Turuvekere which will be later released to Shimsha river, he stated.
Executive engineer Rangadhamaiah said that the TMC has donated Rs 1.67 crore out of the total expenditure of Rs 6.75 crore. However, the public has to bear the increase in the tax, he said.
