There is some bad news in the air for travellers. Air fares are to increase by Rs 300 following the increasing trend in the prices of the aviation turbine fuel (ATF).
Kingfisher Airlines is the first one to announce the hike. It said on Friday that the fares would be hiked by Rs 300 from December 3. “In view of the latest increase in ATF fares, Kingfisher has decided to hike surcharge by Rs 300 from this Monday,” the airline said. Almost all airlines are likely to follow suit.
ATF prices were ruling at around $ 95 per barrel and industry sources added that it may shortly touch the $100 mark. This is the first time that an airline has hiked the fuel surcharge by as much as Rs 300 as so far the hikes were in the range of Rs 75 to Rs 150.
With the latest hike, the oil surcharge slapped by airlines on one tickets goes up to Rs 1650.
In addition to this, a passenger has to pay congestion surcharge of Rs 150.
