Frustrated over media’s lack of focus on success stories, ex-President and “missile man” A P J Abdul Kalam recently launched his own fortnightly e-paper ‘Billion Beats’ on his website www.abdulkalam.com.
Unveiled on Children’s Day at Karim Nagar in Andhra Pradesh, the magazine is an attempt to celebrate the success of Indians from villages and cities. “The e-paper should set a new tradition. It should celebrate people wherever they are; be it in an agricultural village, fishing village, the industrial sector or in the service sector,” Kalam said in his message. “In short, Billion Beats should capture and spread glad tidings.”
The idea to have his own medium struck him after attending a television interview in New Delhi. Billion Beats includes an interactive component to encourage people, especially students to share inspiring stories. It also has messages from Indian Test Cricket team captain Anil Kumble and aerospace expert, Dr Kota Harinarayana.
