The Supreme Court, on Friday, refused to grant bail to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Lok Sabha member Pappu Yadav who sought direction for his release from Tihar jail for treatment of ‘morbid obesity’.
A Bench headed by Justices S B Sinha and H S Bedi turned down the plea saying that he could undergo medical treatment for his obesity while staying in the jail.
The Court directed the jail authorities to provide the treatment which was directed by the doctors of AIIMS. “The jail authorities will ensure that all the directions issued by the attending doctors with respect to the appellant will be observed scrupulously,” said the order. He has been lodged in the jail for his alleged role in the murder of CPI-M activist Ajit Sarkar.
