Author Taslima Nasreen on Friday expressed the hope that after withdrawal of controversial parts from one of her books, she would be able to live peacefully in India.
The writer who is desperate to ensure her stay in India and return to Kolkata, claimed that she had already advised her publisher People’s Book Society not to circulate remaining copies of the book in its possession.
“I’ve decided to withdraw 30 to 40 copies that are presently in circulation and asked my publisher to delete three pages containing the controversial portions in the next edition of the book,” she said. A spokesman of the publisher, when contacted, confirmed it.
Sources close to her said that Taslima had virtually resigned herself to her fate and was “heartbroken,” having lost all hope after Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee refused to risk her return to the city here despite criticism from the allies. You have to understand that in a situation like this, she has little option for survival as a literary personality. Its no wonder that she’ll have to submit to these forces,” sources said.
