Asian Games gold medallists South Korea surprised Olympic champions Australia 1-0 on the second day of the Champions Trophy hockey tournament at the Bukit Jalil National stadium here on Friday.
The all-important goal was scored by Korean drag-flicker Jang Jong Hyun, who converted a penalty corner in the 53rd minute.
In another upset of sorts, Pakistan bounced back from their loss to Germany on the first day and blanked Spain 2-0. For Pakistan, the goals were scored by Waqas Sharif in the 55th minute and Akhtar Ali in the 61st.
Germany inflicted a 4-0 defeat on Great Britain in another match. Matthias Witthaus (38th, 70th) scored from field goal attempts, while Sebastien Draguhn (32nd) and Carlos Nevada (58th) converted short corners.
The Netherlands then registered a 3-1 win over hosts Malaysia.
Taeke Taekema, Rob Reckers and Ronald Brouwer came good in the Dutch win. Earlier, in the 18th minute, Kevinder Singh had given Malaysia the lead.
