Getting the Queen's English right
The GCC Queen's Academy of English Language has several courses to brush up your language.

The Garden City Group of Institutes, with Dr Joseph V G, Chairman, at its helm, is a fifteen year old institute, which offers 12 UG and 13 PG courses, and have students from 58 countries.

The institute extends courses for B Com, MBA, Computer Science, Genetics, Commerce & Mass Media, Fashion Design, Hotel Management, Journalism, Para-Medical, Journalism, and, the GCC Queen's Academy of English Language, Asia's finest English Academy.

Speaking on the importance of the English language, Rajat Tikku, Director/ language trainer says, "Students who are academically brilliant, fail to make the requirements of corporates who are looking for candidates with refined communication skills. The opportunities are abundant, as is the demand, but we lack professionals who have command over the language, which has now become the global language of the 21st century. I personally feel, incorrect pronunciation, is like a body without a soul."

GCC, aims at raising the standard of the English language. Language has two functions, accuracy-(grammatical proficiency), and fluency. The academy extends a blend of both, dealing with the nuances of the language from research, to teaching and certification.

The courses cover Elementary English, Advanced English, language used for Business, Hospitality, Nursing, with Diplomas in International English for foreign students. A student has the choice of the duration of the course and can study for any length of time, starting from a month to a year, and for those who cannot physically attend classes, the online study tools and materials are accessible.

The study material and method of instruction is periodically updated by the Council of Indian Certification of English Language. In addition, they also train trainers for BPO and IPO's and have preparatory modules for IELTS and TOEFL.

Rajat asserts, “Everyone knows English, but, most speak "Hinglish" which translates into bad accents, and wrong grammar." The common mistakes are - The room/ address is on the backside; Why you telling; come on no; I going, what you doing; Do one thing, and so on.

People speak a literal translation of the regional language without heed to tenses, verbs and adjectives. Even media personnel mispronounce the language. An inability to speak the language correctly is one's Achilles heel as it were, and proves a stumbling block in your career.

The Queen's Academy of English language has the rare honour of being the official representative of the London School of English Language in India. On completion of a year's course, the students take an exam in ICEL for certification in basic, general and advance levels in the language.

Understanding the market demand of fluency in language, it aims to capitalise on it, and stresses on correct pronunciation, following to a certain extent, the BRP-British Received Pronunciation, which covers voice modulation, diction, modulation, touching tenets of the language. Today's youth have access to varied and unlimited vistas, and there are competitions in music, dance and sports, which generate an opportunity to bring their talents to the fore. Yet, one finds, in the field of education and specifically in the field of language, there is little or no interaction, though proficiency and finesse in the language is the need of the day.

In an attempt to reverse this trend, GCC Queen's Academy of English Language, has taken the initiative to launch the ultimate language competition, 'English Wizards- 2008 -  The Masters of the English Language, a first of its kind contest which will bring together over two hundred colleges in Bangalore. Students will have the opportunity to explore their skills and talent in the field which has become important for their profession. The twelve day celebration of the English language, aims to create a powerful platform for youth networking.
There will be around 500 participants, which include 350 international participants, who will battle it out for the most coveted title. GCC has centres at KR Puram, Banaswadi, Vidyaranyapura and Indiranagar.
