STORE CHECK
Fresh lime closet
Smita Balram Kumar
Raid this lemony fresh closet open to all fashionistas in Bangalore! Nimboo Closet is the latest zing that has hit the couture bazaar in City.

Neither is it a clothes store, nor is it a jewellery, shoe or an accessories store. Actually, it’s all in one! As the name suggests, the store has been designed as a walk-in closet, brimming with designer clothes, snazzy shoes, funky bags, colourful trinkets and accessories.

Apart from several new-wave designers, the shelves occupy the in-house label Nimboo Style + Design, already present at boutiques like Soho and Village in New York. Pioneered by popular ex-models Kavya Peerbhoy and Prasanna Pandarinathan, the label was also supplied to stores like Native Place and Hatworks Boulevard. And then the two decided to have their own store in the hometown of Bangalore. Joining hands with friend Namrata Sudhindra, the duo brought their label down and started Nimboo Closet.

Explains Kavya, “Each of us have been models and stylists and so come with our own sense of style and design. We lend our unique taste to each piece of garment here. We liked the concept of a walk-in closet, where women can browse and get everything under one roof. And for the name Nimboo Closet, we were looking at something very fresh yet rooted in India.”

Western in construction and Indian in spirit, the latest in-house offering is the festive temple collection. Targeted at the urban Indian woman aged between 18 and 40 years, the collection comprises of baby doll dresses, wrap skirts and jackets, created using rich Indian fabrics and embroidery. So, there are brocade bolero jackets and skirts with embroidery trimmings occupying the racks.

Reasonably priced, the other labels at the store include Ahmedabad-based Tiramisu, silver jewellery by Plamak, costume jewellery by Pune-based Nandita, bags by British brand Emma and the shoes sourced from across the world. Then there is everything from bracelets, rings, earrings, stoles, belts and stockings to even hairbands!
So, what made them chose Bangalore as the next destination? “We all live here. Bangalore has changed a lot. People here are open to style experimentation. Bangalore is on par with New York on the fashion scale today,” Kavya asserts.

Nimboo Closet is located at No 12, Aga Abbas Ali Road, (Next to Peaches Salon), Off Ulsoor Road. Store is closed on Tuesdays.
