With Habba stepping into its second week, and the City swaying in gay abandon to the infectious rhythm of festive fever, it’s time to get into classic mode and groove to some rock and roll as well. The vibrant vibgyor of vaudeville, resonating on across City, that has got culture conscious citizenry to lap, and live, it all up, promises plentiful potpourri of events this weekend too.

Yes, mates, mark your calendars, let work wait, and free yourselves specially in evenings — Friday through Sunday for, City’s Palace Grounds plays court to some of the finest exponents of music and dance forms to regale you. With stately royal palace providing picture perfect sylvan and serene setting to awe-inspiring performances that will reverberate the dewy December nights, feel princely in your perch and soak in the festiveness of the happy habba.

Be stirred and roused as spectacular and spiritually stirring Dollu Kunitha, popular ensemble drum dance of the State, livens up the evening with rhythmic drum beats and soulful singing by the seasoned practitioners.

Thereafter, welcome violin virtuoso L Subramaniam and be “carried away in wonderment” as great Lord Yehudi Menuhin eulogised about this iconic maestro and get transported to Elysian heights of magical mellifluous music as a renowned father performs in concert with his  enterprising son Ambi. Be bewitched by Carnatic classical renditions on stringed instruments by this delectable duo. Friday evening ends with evocative Kathak Dance Ensemble by renowned dancer and choreographer Aditi Mangaldas.

Saturday sojourn sees evening set alit with enactment of Kamsa Vadhe / Destruction of Evil Kamsa in Yakshagana, Karnataka’s traditional folk theatre form with its combination of dance, music, dialogue and stage techniques, followed by tabla sensation and Prince of Percussion Taufiq Qureshi, youngest son of legendary tabla maestro Ustad Allahrakha and brother of tabla genius Zakir Hussain. Having gotten into mood get to jig and jive as Indian rock bands Pentagram and Parikrama set the stage afire.

On Sunday catch up with Hindustani flute and Carnatic saxaphone jugalbandi with avante garde flautist Ronu Majumdar scintillating saxaphone specialist Kadri Gopalnath mix and match skill and artistry in jovial, musical joust. Bringing the  curtains down will be singing sensation Sukhwinder with Bollywood Extravaganza and band Bandish. Pick your  passes and binge on the performances at Bangalore Palace Grounds (Mekhri Circle entrance) and let the music and dance waft you into a whole new symphonic world .
