The park adjacent to the office of the Environment Improvement Programme (Sector 6) is practically defunct because of the stench. People prefer to stay clear because the garbage is left to pile up and buffaloes and stray dogs are all over the place.

All the seven sectors in the Layout need more parks. In a layout that doesn’t have enough lung space, vacant sites (around 30 per cent of the total number of sites) are left unattended. Ever since the BBMP took over the Layout, maintenance of footpaths and roads has been abysmal.

Vacant sites have always been a problem in the Layout because migrant labourers and non-residing public use these sites to relieve themselves. There’s some arrangement for garbage disposal, but there’s still a lot more to be done.

Sector 5 is practically surrounded by sewage. Due to a delay in the work of laying a UGD line from Sarjapur Road to Silk Board Junction, sewage lines in the Layout have been blocked at many points. Despite several representations, the issue stays.

Seven schools in close proximity to each other in Sector 4 have affected the serene atmosphere of the locality. With school buses moving in areas meant to be quiet residential areas and houses being given out for commercial purposes, the very purpose of planning the residential layout has been defeated.

An open space (19th Cross, 11th and 12th Main) in Sector 7, earmarked for a park, has been converted to a CA (Civic Amenity) site and handed over to the Bangalore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in violation of what had been planned when the Layout was formed.
