Stars descend on alma mater
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Around 3,000 people had gathered to hear the inspiring words of high achievers (who were ex-Josephites) on the occasion of St Joseph Colleges Sesquicentenary celebrations held on Thursday.

Though, the rain played a spoilsport for some time resulting in chaos, things returned to normal later.

The achievers included cricketer Rahul Dravid and Robin Uttappa; Infosys member of the board, and Director, Human Resources T V Mohan Das Pai and Hotmail co-founder Sabeer Bhatia. But, the star who stole the limelight was none other than Rahul Dravid.

Even as some students were content with glimpse of the popular cricketer, many waited patiently to hear his speech. Speaking on this occasion, Dravid reminisced his schooling days at St Joseph and also shared some of his memories with the audience.

He said that it’s important to have faith in team mates, in oneself and in preparation. If one works hard and has faith in one’s ability, then it will take one a long way, he added.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur, who was the chief guest, said that in modern times, education is  commercialised. Imparting of education is viewed like an industry, where the students are churned  out like industrial products.
Sabeer Bhatia said that three pillars are required to make India’s presence felt in next 20 years. They are: education, good governance and infrastructure. He said that there is need to improve the quality at higher education and infrastructure too.
