The Excise Department officials were successful in nabbing a person who was involved for a long time in the illicit liquor business on Wednesday evening.
They arrested Narayanaswamy of Keelukote in Kolar district and his accomplice Shrinivas of Udukula and recovered 500 packets of liquor from him. However, another accused Umesh has managed to escape.
Based on a tip-off, the police caught him red-hand while he was trying to transport illicit liquor. During interrogation, the main accused Narayanaswamy stated that he used to collect illicit liquor in Kurubarapete in Kolar and used to supply it to the various parts of the district. For several years, he had proved to be a great nuisance to the Excise Department. Further investigations are on in the case.
