“A district-level Heritage Committee must be formed to preserve and restore antique articles and buildings respectively,” said Deputy Director of Department of Archaelogical Survey and Museum and Dr G V Gayathri.
Inaugurating the ‘Parampare Koota’ at St Aloysius College on Thursday by playing a traditional game ‘Chennemane,’ Dr Gayathri said that this committee must comprise of experts pertaining to the subject and identification and listing of heritage structures and buildings of historical importance must be identified.
She said that since the past 6 months ‘paramparika kota’ is being organised by the department in six districts like Mysore, Vijapur, Kitoor, Gulbarga and others and with the help of public and students identification of heritage structures has taken off. The identified buildings will be documented and restored in future.
Presiding over the programme, Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao said that in wake of modernisation, many of the heritage buildings are either left in a deplorable condition or are reduced to the grounds to put up modernise edifices.
He said that Dakshina Kannada district must also have heritage villages in the same format as it was done in Mysore.
