Opposing the improper distribution of ration cards for eligible beneficiaries, villagers of Mullusoge stalled the photograph clicking programme organised by Revenue and Food and Civil Supplies Department on Tuesday.
Even though more than 1,500 families in Mullusoge Gram Panchayat live below the poverty line, only 200 families have been distributed ration cards out of which nine families have been provided BPL cards while 191 families have been provided APL cards.
The villagers said that until rest of the families are distributed BPL cards, the photograph clicking programme must be postponed. Gram Panchayat President M A Kumaraswamy and member M V Harish who spoke to the taluk tahsildar from the protest site, demanded that anomalies in the ration card distribution must be set right immediately. Speaking at a press meet, Gram Panchayat President M A Kumaraswami said that the anomalies in the ration card distribution must be set right in the presence of gram panchayat administration within December 25.
If the demand is not fulfilled, the Kushalnagar Nada office will be locked up and a protest will be organised, he warned.
GP members M V Harish and Cheluvaraj said that though protests were organised twice in front of the Nada office demanding rectification of the anomalies, the officials concerned have not responded.
If BPL cards are not properly distributed, protests will be organised to close down ration shops in the area, warned Congress zonal president M G Swami and BJP hobli unit leader C M Ganesh Prasad.
