Plantation workers of the taluk organised a protest near the post office in town after taking out a procession demanding the Central government to fix minimum wages for workers on Wednesday.
They criticised that though the High Court has ordered revision of minimum wages, no steps have been taken.
Hundreds of workers who participated in the procession, urged immediate fulfilment of their legitimate demands. Later, addressing protesters, leaders demanded a check on the spiralling prices, stop outsourcing of contracts, guarantee bonus for workers, stop commercialisation of health sector and atrocities on women at work place.
District CPI leader Harish, INTUC leader Baluru Ramesh, Niduvale Anand, taluk Akshara Dasoha Workers’ Union President Sampliraju and Plantation Workers’ Union leader Ganesh participated.
During the protest, many leaders were arested by the police and later released.
