Bills passed without discussion
Babri: Houses disrupted
DH News Service, New Delhi:
Fifteen years after the demolition of the Babri mosque, the issue continued to haunt Parliament with political parties trading charges and forcing several adjournments in both the Houses on Thursday.

While the Lok Sabha adjourned for the day amid demands for action against those responsible for the ‘disgraceful’ act, the Upper House was adjourned twice in the pre-lunch session but transacted business after it reconvened at 2 pm.

Within minutes of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha assembling for the day, trouble started with Samajwadi Party members rushing to the well demanding action against those responsible for the demolition of the Babri masjid.

BJP members were up on their feet raising slogans ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and “Mandir Wahi Banayenge”.

RJD members in the Lok Sabha demanded immediate tabling of the report of the Liberhan Commission that probed the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992.

Business as usual
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who first adjourned the House till noon, again adjourned it till 2 pm after the papers were laid.  When the Lok Sabha re-assembled, the uproar continued but Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal went ahead with business.

Amid the din, the House passed the Armed Forces Tribunal Bill without any discussion.

Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad introduced the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill and the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill before the House was adjourned for the day.

Similar scenes were witnessed in the Upper House where Chairman Hamid Ansari’s repeated pleas for calm went unheeded and he adjourned the House till noon.

Privilege notice
When the House re-assembled, members resorted to similar protest forcing it to adjourn till 2 pm.

In the din, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said he has given a privilege notice against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for ‘misleading’ the House on the Indo-US nuclear deal issue. The former Union minister was referring to the Prime Minister's remarks during his intervention in the discussion on the deal that when Sinha went to Japan as Finance Minister in 1991 he was not allowed to meet his counterpart.

P J Kurien, who was in the Chair, said that Sinha’s notice was under consideration of the Chairman. Later speaking to reporters on the Ayodhya issue CPI MP Gurudas Dasgupta said both BJP and Congress led governments should be blamed for giving extensions to the Liberhan Commission. He demanded that no further extension should be given and the panel be asked to submit its report by the Budget Session next year.

New Delhi,PTI: Five people were injured on Thursday when activists of Shiv Sena and a Muslim organisation clashed during their demonstrations here on the 15th anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid.

Violence broke out at around 12 pm at Jantar Mantar when an unidentified man pelted stones at the activists of All India Babri Masjid Re-Building Committee (AIBRC) who were demanding reconstruction of the structure, a senior police official said.

Crude bombs found
Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh), IANS: Five crude bombs normally used as firecrackers were found from the court premises here on Thursday. The trial of the demolition of the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya 15 years ago is underway here. Police arrested a man, Rajaram Lodh, with the bombs normally used as firecrackers for wedding ceremonies, said Superintendent of Police Mohit Agrawal.

He was nabbed during an intensive search of the premises, where security has been intensified on the 15th anniversary of the demolition. According to Agrawal, Lodh doesn’t seem to have any terrorist connections. He appeared to have come to court for a pending case and was caught with the bombs in his bag.
