There is a saying : X-Mas comes once a year, but brings lots of cheer. Yes! that’s true. X-Mas is also associated with exchanging of gifts.
With prices going sky-high, it may not be possible for all of us to buy expensive gifts for our loved ones. I think handmade gifts created using our imagination not only makes us feel good, but also creates a feeling of “Oh someone has taken pains to gift this surprise to me.”
Ok let us start with these interesting home made gifts that are easy for all to try out:
1. Old jam bottles which cleaned and dried, can be painted, in which any old grandmaa can store lemon-drops for the kids.
2. Apron strings attachment: you don’t have to buy new material to make one for an aunt who loves to be in the kitchen. Any out-grown frock, or skirt can be made into a smart apron: just take two strings or ribbons on either side of a pocket on the right side. If the skirt is plain, do a bit of embroidery to bright it up.
3. A cashew nut tray. If someone finds it difficult to paint, buy a tray with embossed designs on it. Paint it from the wrong side. (Food will not get affected).
4. A Bible cover: take a 12”x6” material, stitch it in half leaving a little gap in between.
5. Children will have fun with this: Take a shoe box, dress it up like a stage. Fix the Santa’s picture with 2 strings on either side, going out (for manipulation) through the 2 holes done on either side of the box (play or sing Jingle Bells) and amuse everyone around.
6. Poor rich Santa can be waiting for us in the snow. Take an empty plastic bottle. Fix the Santa and the tree (after painting on the lid of the bottle. You should make the bottle upside down. Paint white light strokes to give a flaky look all over the bottle, spread some cotton and glue it from inside the lid to make Santa sit on it.
7. Jig-saw puzzles are a waste when some of the pieces get lost. Take a big or small paper plate, cut it in the centre, fix a photo or a card in the centre and paste old jig-saw puzzle pieces all around it a loop to hang it on the wall.
8. Greeting cards: Take a card board, cut it with jig-saw scissors and make a weave on it with a thread: once its done paste any picture or a painting to it.
9. A wall picture. Take any piece of thermocal, draw a picture on it, paint it. Add glitter on it and get it framed.
