Sale of books  extended
Kannada Sahitya Parishat has extended sale of books with 50 per cent discount till December 31. The Parishat has earlier put the last date as November 30. However, the period of the sale has been extended as the public demanded, said a release from the parishat. Guv urged to hold elections
Bangalore, DHNS:  Former minister P G R Sindhia on Thursday urged the Governor to expedite the process of holding elections to the posts of presidents and vice-presidents to the 209 local bodies, elections to which were held to months ago.

In a letter to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, Mr Sindhia pointed out that as per the law, the elections to the post of presidents and vice-presidents should be held within a month after holding elections to the local bodies. He also urged the Governor to issue notification reserving these posts for various categories as per law. With the absence of presiding officers, the elected council of these local bodies have become non-functional, which is against the democratic principles, Mr Sindhia said.
