Award for women scribes
Bangalore, DHNS: Jayaraman family and the Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI), will jointly announce the Anupama Jayaraman Memorial Award for young women journalists for 2008.
All nominations should be sent by December 25, according to a press note. The 2008 award will be for a woman print journalist in India.
This year the award has been extended from only English to include two other Indian languages: Kannada (since Anupama was based in Karnataka) and Marathi (since the award will be presented at an event in Pune).
Opposition to temple
Bangalore, DHNS: Karnataka State Committee of Indian Union Muslim League has requested the Centre not to pass legislation favouring construction of a temple at disputed site in Ayodhya.
In memorandum submitted to the Governor on the occasion of observance of “Black Day on December 6 to condemn demolition of Babri masjid, IUML state president Mirza Mohammad Mehdi also urged the authorities to expedite the judicial process to punish those responsible for demolition.
