A legislation for providing equal opportunity in jobs can end discrimination against dalits in various sectors including in employment, said Legislative Council Chairman B K Chandrashekar.
Speaking at seminar on “Empowerment of Dalits and Human Rights,” organised by the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (Ambedkar Philosophy) in Bangalore on the occasion of, observance of Dr B R Ambedkar’s 51st death anniversary, Prof Chandrashekar said, equal opportunity covers employment and such a legislation would open job opportunities for dalits in every sector.
Pointing out that dalits were deprived of sufficient job opportunities due to globalistion, he said the issue over reservation of jobs in private sector should be debated to arrive at a proper policy for providing job opportunities to every section of the society.
Prof Chandrashekar also said that there should be a study to find out the financial assistance given by the Indian banks to dalits.
‘Equality for all’
In a separate function organised at the party offices of JD (S) and JD (U), the political leaders felt that non-implementation of Ambedkar’s “equality for all” concept has been the cause for social backwardness being witnesses by the society.
While JD (S) senior leader D Manjunath said large number of below poverty level families reflect the failure in implementing Ambedkar’s forethought, JD(U) state president B Somashekar felt that the existing differences based on caste and religion indicate failure in implementing Ambedkar’s dream of equality.
Earlier in the day, Governor Rameshwar Thakur garlanded Ambedkar’s statue in front of Vidhana Soudha in a function organised by the Social Welfare Department.
Various other organisations had arranged rallies, seminars and social service oriented programmes to observe Ambedkar’s death anniversary across the City.
