All roads led to Palace Grounds on Saturday. Perhaps it was the largest crowd turnout for Airtel Bengalooru Habba this year, where the audience were treated to a fare of Hindustani Flute and Carnatic Saxophone Jugal Bandi, by Ronu Majumdar and Kadri Gopalnath. Vocal and dance extravaganza by Sukhwinder and Bollywood night was also on the offing.

A musical evening on a chilly weekend was a perfect combination for musical lovers.

The evening kick started with Yakshagana performance revolving around the theme of Krishna’s birth in Mathura and was enacted by K Krishnamurthy and party. It was well appreciated by the audience.

Legendary musician Allah Rakha’s son Taufiq Qureshi along with his troupe members enthralled the audience with their fusion music. The  musical programme was thrown open to the audience with sounds emanating from the saxophone, flute and piano with Taufiq himself on drums. Taufiq’s musical piece, in which he effortlessly rendered a solo performance and managed to produce the sounds of various musical instruments with his voice alone received a thunderous applause.

Oldies
Vijay Prakash who hosts the popular T V show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee Kannada channel made the audience asking for more as he sang the all-time-hit Kannada regional song ‘sundara nade Kalegala beede’ followed by Chandana Bala’s classical music piece.

The audience were  also treated to a fantastic jugalbandi between Vijay and other musicians.

A non-lyrical amazing amalgamation of songs like Hare Krishna, Mehbooba, Anisuthide and Kodagana Kolinungitta based on ragas alone, by Vijay was a perfect finale.

Children too had their bit of fun in a different way. At Bal Bhavan, students from select government schools put up regional song and dance performances for a small gathering.
