The annual festival and jaatrotsav will be held in full glory in Hebbale village of north Kodagu on December 9. As part of the jaatra, the rural folk sport bullockcart race and rural sports meet will be organised on December 10 at 9 am. Kalasha will be installed along with pooja rituals at the Banashankari Temple in Pavitra Bana as part of the annual festival of the Goddess.
At 4 pm, the Goddess will be decorated after the ksheerabhisheka and agnikunda will be arranged in the Pavitra Bana, informed temple committee president H N Basavaraju. On the occasion, the village will be decorated with green festoons and lightings. Later, the Goddess placed in a mantap decorated with lightings, will be taken out in a procession from the Basaveshwari Temple to pass through the main streets of the village at 10 pm. Utsav mantaps which will be taken out in a procession from other places will add grandeur to the procession on the lines of Dasara celebrations. Colourful fire works and crackers will captivate the onlookers during the procession.
The utsav will reach Pavitra Bana at 1 pm and devotees who have taken vows will have a glimpse of the Goddess while walking on the burning charcoal. Devotees from the surrounding areas of Hebbale village along with devotees from the border areas of Mysore and Hassan districts are expected to participate in the utsav.
The following day, devotees will offer pooja to the Goddess at 6.30 am. After the pooja, the gold ornaments donated by Income Tax Department Assistant Commissioner Vasanth will be offered to the Goddess. The bullockcart race to be organised under the aegis of Model Yuvaka Sangha will attract huge crowd.
Along with this, rural sportsmeet will be organised at the Government Model Primary School playground, informed Yuvaka Sangha President H H Dhananjay. Many jaatras reflecting the culture of the village will participate in the festival.
