Railway services throughout Kerala were disrupted on Saturday following a sudden strike by train drivers.
The incident was in view of a move by railway authorities to introduce a new system of duty for the drivers that, according to employees, will result in job loss. “The strike is against the new roster system introduced by Southern Railway that came on Saturday morning and we had no prior intimation regarding this,” said L Mani, president of All-India Loco Running Staff Association.
The flash strike began at the Thiruvananthapuram division and drivers from the Palakkad division joined in later. The entire operations of the railways in Kerala come under the two divisions.
