Some passengers of the Bangalore-Mysore Tippu Express went berserk attacking the engine and pelting stones at the coaches after they had to wait for more than half-an-hour at a crossing near Hejjala, here on Saturday.
The Tippu Express, which was bound for Mysore, had been stopped at the crossing near Hejjala. However, there was a delay in giving signal clearance as the Shatabdi Express (which was on its way from Mysore) was delayed by more than half an hour.
In the meantime, when passengers insisted on giving signal clearance for the train, the station master expressed his helplessness saying nothing could be done till the Shatabdi Express arrived. Agitated over the this, hundreds of passengers went on the rampage.
They also entered the station room and attacked the staff.Following this, the arrival of Shatabdi Express in Bangalore was delayed by two and half hours.
Also, the train that was bound for Tirupathi from Mysore was delayed, arriving 45 minutes late at Ramanagara.
The railway police have registered a case. However, no action has been taken against anyone so far. Tight security has been provided at Ramanagara and nearby railway stations.
There has often been delays in giving signal clearance because of the ongoing work on the Bangalore-Ramanagara twin rail track. However, passengers allege that the train is stopped for no reason, at some railway stations for hours on end.
