I read with interest an article - Speaking for the Disabled - about Dr. N Rathna's achievements in the field of education for the deaf. I want to tell you that while addressing the audience which included deaf adults, he set aside the sign language interpreter and used total communication (oral + sign language) to the amazement of the entire audience!!! In fact, he learnt sign language in his fifties. We, the deaf are proud that he respects and uses our language.
