Dacoits decamp with Rs 55 lakh
Six armed dacoits stormed into the house of a civil contractor and looted booty worth Rs 53 lakh and Rs 2 lakh cash at gun-point at Mahalakshmi Layout on Friday. According to reports, the masked dacoits wielding weapons and arms striked the house of Chikke Chennaiah at 9.30 pm. The family was confined into a room and their cell phones were snatched. At gun-point, the criminals took the keys of the locker and escaped with gold and silver ornaments and cash. The dacoits appeared to be in their twenties and spoke Kannada. They, however, did not harm anyone. Police have launched a massive search.
Gold, cash stolen from KSRTC bus
Leaving behind gold and cash unattended in a KSRTC bus proved to be costly for Manohar Rao. The victim, a native of Bellary was to board a bus from the KSRTC bus station in Majestic to Gadag on February 17. He had left his nephew Deepu to keep a watch on the luggage, as he and his wife had to answer nature’s call. When the bus was about to leave, Deepu left behind the luggage in the bus and went in search of the couple. When the three returned they found out that some miscreants had escaped with jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 10,000 cash. Police are investigating.
This ‘Quest‘grow longer
The list of people allegedly cheated by the online network marketing firm, Quest Net India grew by another 800 when the victims lodged a complaint at the High Grounds police on Friday. The complainants, most of whom were slum-dwellers, gathered at the police station after learning that the cops were trying to make the firm repay the money. The situation was tense and the police station even shut its doors for sometime, fearing an untoward incident. Additional forces were also deployed at the station to deal with the crowd. Police sources say that 300 demand drafts have been issued to the victims and efforts are on to settle accounts with the remaining.
Betting racket busted, 1 held
The CCB sleuths on Friday busted a cricket betting racket by arresting a man in Seshadripuram. The raid was carried out at KP West, from where Satish Chandra Kumar (32) was nabbed. He was receiving bets on the Sri Lanka and Australia matches. Police claimed the kits seized from Kumar showed he transacted around Rs 75 lakh during the match. A sum of Rs 75,000 cash and two TVs were recovered from his house.
Held for temple burglaries
Indiranagar police nabbed a habitual thief who had jumped bail 14 years ago and was back to his old business of burgling temples. Police seized valuables worth Rs 3 lakh from him. Kumar alias Chand Pasha (44), a native of Tamil Nadu, had targeted several temples. He had decamped with ornaments from Meenakshi temple on Bannerghatta Road, sneaked into the Someshwara temple at Madiwala and Anjaneya temple at Bannerghatta. Sources said he was caught in 1994 in connection with 16 theft cases.
