Elections to the seats of president and vice president for KGF CMC, supposed to be conducted on Friday, have been postponed to March 1 due to the state of utter chaos prevailing in the city.
It all started when members of CPM and Congress complained on Friday morning that their party members Jayanthi and Shanthi were abducted. They began a protest urging for postponement of elections. The police had to resort to lathi charge in order to control the agitating crowd.
Security has been beefed up as the situation continues to be worse.
Twenty members had attended the special meeting of which seven were from former MLA and JD (S) leader Bhaktavatsalam’s faction. Eight were independent candidates, while four were from BJP and one from CPM. All of them wanted to support Bhaktavatsalam.
However, members of Congress and RPI stayed away from the meeting and alleged that Bhaktavatsalam had abducted the two members. They insisted that elections should be postponed.
However, election sub-division officer Archana did not heed to it initially and had started making preparations to conduct elections.
Meantime, members of Bhaktavatsalam faction held a dharna and lay siege to Archana’s office reasoning out that she had postponed the election yielding to pressure from Union Land Transport Minister K H Muniyappa. They later continued their protest at Soorajmal circle.
