In the elections held for the post of president and vice president of the City Municipal Council, here on Friday, Congress’ Aslam Pasha of ward no 9 and Chandraiah also of Congress of ward no 20 were elected as president and vice president.
The president post was reserved for general category and Aslam Pasha and BJP member K P Mahesh of ward 15 had filed the nominations.
Similarly the vice president’s post was reserved for Schedule Caste and Chandraiah and BJP member Muniyappa from ward 35 had filed their nominations.
Aslam Pasha bagged 25 votes with the support of 14 Congress members out of 15, JD(S) 6, CPI (M) 1 and independents 4. While Mahesh got 9 votes from BJP, and MP’s one vote getting a total vote of just 10 and suffered a defeat.
Congress’s B S Ravish who was a strong contender for the president’s post was conspicuous by his absence. MP S Mallikarjunaiah participated in the election and announced his support for the BJP candidates.
Similarly Chandraiah bagged 25 votes and emerged victorious. Muniyappa bagged just 10 votes.
Deputy commissioner Ravikumar was the election officer.
Tahsildar Patharaju and CMC commissioner Abdul Khayuum were present.
Former MP G S Basavaraju, district Congress president S Shafi Ahmed and City Block president Kundranahalli Ramesh congratulated the winning candidates on their victory in the elections that went by.
