Boney M to rock the City
DHNS
Boney M, a band that has forever defined the pop and disco scene of the 70s and 80s will be performing on March 8 at the Palace Grounds.

It’s back to bygone years. When was the last time you thought about vinyl records, bell bottom pants and those days of living free and happy? The 70s were a time apart when the world was a simpler and more peaceful place and it’s time to party like it’s 1979!  Because Boney M, a band that has forever defined the pop and disco scene of the 70s and 80s will be performing on March 8 at the Palace Grounds.

The concert will feature Marcia Barrett, the original lead singer of the group along with her troupe to perform at AMAZE 2008.  This is a invitee only concert and passes are not for sale.

After German record producer Frank Farian recorded the single ‘Daddy Cool’ in 1974 -75 he created Boney M to support the song, bringing in four West Indian vocalists who had been working as session singers in Germany - Marcia Barrett, Liz Mitchell, Maizie Williams and Bobby Farrell.

Today, they stand as legends who a whole generation has grown up to humming and dancing to hits like 'Rivers of Babylon', Brown Girl in the Ring', 'Rasputin' and 'Ma Baker' to name a few. Marcia Barrett, the lead vocalist, is very excited at the prospect of a show in India.

“It will be a great thrill,” she says “and the concert supports the awareness on global warming” referring to the fact that the AMAZE 2008 and the ‘Good As Gold’ Boney M (Featuring Marcia Barrett) concert will also be spreading awareness about climate change.

So, you can refurbish your '70s wardrobe, whip out those bell bottoms and gaze at that shiny disco ball on March 8 at Palace Grounds. Apart from the concert, the fest will feature a DJ Nite with DJ Ivan and the RJ Rohit Barker on  March 7 at Palace Grounds which will be preceded by a high voltage fashion competition called ‘Runway’.

Being different from the other college festivals, the invites would be only be given out through sponsors promotional offers by Khoday Group of Industries, Reliance Time Out,  I-Store by Reliance Digital, Servo 4T Zoom, Forum, Café Coffee Day, VH1 and Baskin & Robbins.
