Taking a cue from BJP-ruled Rajasthan, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government in Madhya Pradesh has suspended screening of Ashutosh Gowarikar-directed controversial Hindi film Jodha-Akbar in cinema halls across the state.
The state government’s Commercial Tax department issued the order in this regard on Friday. The ban was imposed in view of opposition to its screening and apprehension of breach of peace, official sources said.
The film based on the life of Mughal ruler Akbar and his Hindu wife was banned in Rajasthan following protests of Rajput organisations alleging distortion of historical facts.
