Orissa’s child marathoner Budhia Singh has been admitted into a government run hospital here after he suffered head injuries while playing cricket with his friends. Doctors, however, have declared him out of danger.
According to sources in the state run sports hostel here, Budhia was playing cricket with his friends outside the sports hostel when he fell down and his head hit the ground. He was batting and was trying to take a run when the mishap occurred. Officials present in the sports hostel wasted no time and took him to the capital hospital as he started vomiting soon after the mishap.
Doctors who treated him declared the child prodigy out of danger, but advised him hospitalisation for a day to keep him under observation.
Budhia is currently housed in the government run sports hostel here after differences cropped up between him and his coach-cum-mentor Biranchi Das last year. Both had parted ways following a bitter public war of words between Budhia’s mother and the coach.
Two government departments - women and child welfare as well as sports and youth affairs - have been sponsoring his stay in the sports hostel.
