A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the High Court, seeking action against a sugar factory in Gangabudanal village in Badami taluk of Bagalkot district, which is facing charges of running distilleries.

A divisional bench comprising CJ Cyriac Joseph and Justice B V Nagartna ordered the concerned to serve emergency notices on the State government, factory and other respondents.
Citizens in and around the factory were made to face hardships as the factory management had violated the norms, the petitioners complained.
No to poll matters
The High Court on Friday pointed out the Supreme Court had made it clear that courts could not intervene in poll matters after the process has begun.
Justice Ashok B Hinchgeri dismissed a petition challenging reservation to the post of Gangavathi (in Koppal district) Municipal Council chairman. The post had to be reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidate, but had been reserved for SC (woman), the council member Devappa Kamadoddi had complained in the petition. He had requested the HC to stay the poll scheduled on February 25.
