Be(e)hold beauty of onion flowers
DH News Service, Shidlaghatta:

Onion field at Dibburhalli in Shidlaghatta taluk has turned spectacular, with flowers spread across the field as far as your eye can see. Here the crop is grown for seeds and according to the owner of the field Byrareddy, a graduate, as the farmers expect high price for the crop this year, there will be more demand for seeds.

He explained the current market trend for onion and said that ‘Rose’ variety of the crop was in much demand in Chennai. Hence, most of the farmers have grown the particular variety this year, expecting good returns, he added.

However, the rich crop in his field was not to be sold directly in market but for the sowing purposes.
Once the flowers wither and seeds ripen, the crop will be harvested. Per a ‘seru’ he will get from Rs 100 to Rs 200. Around Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 will be invested in growing the sowing seeds. Most of the money is spent for water and pesticides.

Besides, care should be taken to protect the flowers from the bee.
