Well known industrialist V T Velu, died after a prolonged illness on Saturday. He is survived by two sons and a daughter. Born in 1922, Velu completed his primary education in R B N M S School, Bangalore and higher education in Presidency College, Chennai.
He was the former director of The Printers (Mysore) Private LimitedHe was also associated with India Garage and Southern Motors since 1945. He was founder-president of ‘Karnataka State Automobile Dealers Association’, which was formed with 14 ordinary members on its roll in 1967.
He was a director on the board of companies including Mysore Paper Mills, Cholamandalam Investments and Finance Company Limited, M/S Hutti Gold Mines Limited and Lakshmi Mills Limited, Coimbatore. He was also a government nominated member for two terms on the board of City Improvement Trust, now BDA. He was also connected with educational and charitable institutions. He was the honorary secretary and trustee of Kamalabai Girls Educational Trust.
In his younger days, Velu was a keen tennis player. He also served as president of Mysore State Lawn Tennis Association, president of Bangalore Club and chairman of BTC.
