Banks in the City reported thin attendance as many employees had applied leave for two days (to coincide with Sunday and the strike days) in order to attend to their personal work, or visit their home towns.
Bank employees had earlier announced a two-day strike from Monday to press for their demands.
Even after early morning talks with the Indian Banks Association (IBA), not only customers, but bank employees too were unaware of the fact that the strike had been called off.
“Soon after the early-morning TV bulletins flashed the news that the strike was off, we had to call our staff and ask them to rush to duty,” a bank officer with the State Bank of Mysore said.
Customer turn out too was thin. Many people had already completed their banking transactions the previous weekend, in anticipation of the bank employees’ strike.
