Four policemen from Tamil Nadu facing charges of stealing six rifles from a police station in Dharmapuri district were subjected to polygraph test at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Bangalore on Monday.
The polygraph test on the cops started at 12 noon and continued till late in the evening. Four other cops involved in the case were also likely to undergo truth serum tests on Tuesday. About a month ago eight policemen from Adiyaman police station in Dharmapuri district had told their seniors that naxalites had decamped with six rifles from the police station when they were asleep.
In this regard, a special team, headed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Vijay Kumar, had been set up. During the probe, Vijay Kumar, who had led the operation against forest brigand Veerppan, thoroughly interrogated eight policemen. Following their statements, the team dug a place in an agriculture field and recovered three rifles buried there. It is feared that the eight policemen may have had links with LTTE and would be supplying arms to the banned Tamil outfit. The polygraph test was conducted to know more about their network.
