The KFCC led by its President Tallam Nanjunda Shetty took this decision after holding a meeting with Kannada and Culture Secretary I M Vittal Murthy in this regard. “Vittal Murthy has assured to fulfil our demands soon. So we have dropped the strike plan,” Kannada Film Producers Association President Sandesh Nagaraj said.
It is the second time in less than two weeks that KFCC has dropped its strike plan. It had threatened to hold bundh on February 14. But decided against it at the last minute.
Nagaraj further said that Vittal Murthy has promised to incorporate the demand for the complete tax exemption in the coming 2008-09 budget document.
In fact, the Kannada film producers are divided on the issue. While a section of producers, who are into remaking in a big way and who have already taken rights for the remakes, are vehemently demanding tax exemption, the other producing only ‘original’ movies are against the demand.
This is the reason why KFCC has not been able to take a firm stand to hold a bundh, sources said.
