Alphonso bags snooker title

Karl Alphonso defeated Jasim Tawin 4-2 in a long-drawn battle to win the T A Selvaraj Open snooker prize money tournament at the KSBA Hall on Tuesday.

Alphonso lost the first frame 32-73, but was quick to regain lost ground in the second which he won 51-13 and took a 2-1 lead by winning the third 40-38.

Tawin didn’t give up easily and took the fourth 38-66. However, Alphonso won the fifth 65-56 and closed the contest in the sixth frame which he won with a score of 56-26.

Result (final): Karl Alphonso bt  Jasim Tawin 32-73, 51-13, 40-38, 38-66, 65-56, 56-26.

Gajanana enters second round

Gajanana DS from Sharp software won the preliminary round of the Ascendas corporate chess tournament. Gajanana finished with a tally of five points in five rounds.

Chandrashekar stars for PESIT

An all-round effort by Chandrashekar (4/17 and 54 n.o.) helped PESIT register a convincing nine-wicket win over Vijaya Degree College ‘B’ in the BHS FGC staff cricket tournament on Tuesday.

Brief scores:
Vijaya Degree College ‘B’: 133 all out in 21.3 overs (Harish 37; Chandrashekar 4-17, Muniraju 3-24) lt to PESIT: 136/1 in 12.2 overs (Chandrashekar 54 n.o., Guruprasad 54 n.o.).
Vijaya PUC: 196/8 in 25 overs (Kiran KS 74, Narayana 38; Ranjan 2-40) lt to Vijaya Degree College ‘A’: 199/4 in 19.3 overs (Harish 57 n.o., Chinmayananda 45, Ranjan 45; Narasinha 2-48).

Sunday chess meet on March 2

Innovators Chess Academy will be conduct the first Sunday chess tournament at the State Youth Centre on March 2. The events to be held are under-14, 12, 10, 8 and Open section.
